Look Ma..

Look ma, no hands
Look ma, no hands... Recently, I have had a few people ask me why the characters in the pictures are so generic. The Story A few years back I purchased the domain adayinit.com but let my registration expire due to the lack of time required to work on multiple sites in multiple formats. The site was going to be for light hearted articles and comics about living the IT life. Being somewhat new to Blender (which to me is one of the most useful tools created) at that time, I was playing with character modeling. It was also the time they really started kicking up the scanning, both automated and physical, for copyright and intellectual property infringement. My thought was that the characters would be as generic as possible. The meshes are simple cubes with an attached skeleton. There would be no relation, borrowed content whatsoever.. everything was my creation.. from my head... I also wanted to make sure that the characters had nothing that could be relational to any specific person. My intent was not to single out any one person but to make light of a situation. No harm, No foul. Keeping the characters as generic as possible I could hopefully accomplish this. The fictitious company in the comic was called MIMP Inc. (Money In My Pocket) and somewhere in the back of my head I was probably thinking that this comic strip could take over my full time job. Even as of writing this, I truly enjoy creating the panels. There is no relation with any where I have worked (past, present or future) and no relation to any specific company that exists (past, present or future). Yes, I do realize there is already a comic strip which is similar in concept, but this one comes from my brain. MIMP Inc. Fictitious MIMP Inc. Do the characters have names? Some do, but not many. Usually I copy characters and change colors if I need to fill a scene. The character in the no hands image above I named Monica. Monica Characters I did bother to name usually are related, in name only, to someone I knew in my childhood. Not that they had any significant meaning, just someone that popped into my head. If by chance you are actually one of those people, then you had some impact in my life for me to remember your name some 50 years later and I congratulate you. At some point I may do a character list but not at this moment. Why? I have a somewhat slightly twisted sense of humor. This probably stems back from shows like Saturday Night Live, Fridays and a host of other sitcoms of the time. Watching them were one of my favorite things to do. I always thought that I would make a good comedy writer for one of those shows and many times I could see where the punchline was headed. To me it was refreshing to see that I was not the only one with a somewhat non sensical mentality. As with many people, this was my way of dealing with life, which is not always the bed of roses it is made out to be. As I get older and experience more of life's wonders, both good and bad, my head swims with content. Each year brings more humor, problems, hardships, challenges.... you name it, it is probably out there.
