The Hummingbird Project

I happened to watch the movie "The Hummingbird Project" (released in 2019) this week. I wasn't sure if I would like it since it seemed a somewhat mundane topic but as it turns out I really did enjoy the movie. Trailer pic
It is a struggle by two brothers to be the first to provide the fastest speed between stock exchange nodes and the struggles that they run into along the way. The scene at approximately 1hr 30min was my favorite part of the movie. It totally took me back to my days of telecommunications and networking. You could actually run programs off of the PBX using the keypad on the phone. At the time, I had also written multiple applications (I believe using crosstalk mpk) where I could interact with my computers using an analog modem and a telephone... pushing a whopping 9.6k baud. There were many things that you could do with analog phones that people probably would not believe in this digital age. I enjoy technical scenes which are not only cool and believable but technically possible, especially if I have actually done it. The constant problems they ran into also struck a few chords. If you have ever been on a new store opening you can probably feel their pain as well. Have you ever tried to wake up VP's in the middle of the night only to tell them that the data connections will not be installed for the grand opening because, as it turns out, there were not enough lines coming into the facility? lol. (btw.. some early a.m. PFM and multiplexing and the grand opening was a success and on schedule) Now I am not saying it was the greatest movie I have seen, but it definitely kept me interested, including some pretty emotional scenes. Hats off to the entire team.
