DP 8

Forums:

So... I will have to admit, after playing slightly with dp8 that it is somewhat of a turd. Granted, there are numerous security fixes and controls which are deemed necessary.. but from an administration perspective it is pretty much un-useable, especially when it is hosted on a provider.
Granted, some of the problems may be due to my inability to "yet again" read page upon page of instructions, but personally I do not have time to relearn every nuance of every app I use every time they update it. I initially did that with DP7. I took the time to learn how things work (the parts I needed) and implemented them. All of those things have changed now. Initially, I was going to update to DP8x for a few low end sites on G-Daddy, but that turned fruitless to say the least. Modules which were extremely handy for improving security to the site no longer worked or not available. Numerous things which I could do directly to lock down capabilities were removed under the guise of a potential security issue. Choices you could make prior on the site were simply done away with reasoned by "more security reasons" along with no way to circumvent them. (Other than rewriting the source of course. ugh.) My reason for going with DP in the first place was its ease of use and with minimal effort offer a functional site with comments and graphics. DP7 was not 100% what I wanted but had a wee bit more control than some of comparable apps. Time to start looking again or "rolling my own", but still, just another complete waste of time - better spent elsewhere. <ugh>
