Oculistic

I decided today to break down and spend the $100 on a magic keyboard. Why?
It allows me to pull it into the Oculus Quest 2 Workrooms. If you look into it, the OQ2 supports a limited number of keyboards. For windows it is one, the logitech k8230, which btw Logitech says it is out of stock at around $50.. everywhere else (if by chance you can actually find one) are well over $100. These things are like the freakin cabage patches of KeyBoardia! The other limited options are Apple products and the $100 Magic Keyboard was available at a BB box store. I literally stood in front of the kboards for 15 minutes before I convinced myself to spend that kind of money for yet another keyboard. Not because of wanting one but out of necessity... ugh. Initially it did not work and pairing failed... maybe not so magic afterall. I powered it off and then tried to re-pair the device and was successful. For win 10 there was not much more to do than turning on bluetooth, toggle the power setting on the magic keyboard and connect and it paired. A second power off/on and I was actually able to type on it. Did I type this post with it? The first few lines and then decided it is easier to upload the images from the OC2 and then type the rest out on my standard logitech multimedia kboard.. heh.
So was it worth it? I believe it was, though would prefer a full size kboard with num pad. Unfortunately, a full size was $179 and I did not even know if this was going to work. As shown in the picture it does now appear in Workrooms.
If you look at this next photo it shows how the passthru keyboard is basically a cutout pass preview of your keyboard in real life. This was ok but not really a "representation" of the keyboard.
As you enter your workroom you have the ability to change it, add wall pictures, logos as well as share your desktop on your pc.
This was the one part that I thought was nice about the app. You can pretty much do a full meeting with screen sharing, whiteboarding and markup.
A view from my Workroom
From a development and design perspective it would be really handy to get together with a team of other developers, work through app and game scenarios, discuss designs, etc. This is certainly one of the reasons that I truly believe that VR/AR will be the wave of the future, especially with today's pandemic concerns. A germ-free environment... depending on how clean your own house is, I guess
